Find Federal BOP Releases

To find someone released from Federal Bureau of Prisons facilities nationwide after a Stephens County connection, start by confirming which federal agency held the person. The BOP locator can preserve a past release date for a sentenced federal inmate. A person held before trial by the United States Marshals Service may never appear there. Federal court orders explain detention, bond, sentence, and supervision, while agency records address physical custody. No federal prison operates in Stephens County, so the correct path follows the federal system rather than the county jail roster.

Federal Release Evidence Order

Federal release confirmation is strongest when each source answers its own question. A past BOP Release Date and RELEASED location establish that BOP confinement ended. The federal judgment and later orders identify supervised release, sentence changes, or a new detention ruling. A USMS response addresses a different custody trail. When Stephens County held the person first, its register supplies the local exit event.

Keep names, identifiers, dates, and exact status terms with each record. If two sources appear to conflict, compare their event dates and custodians before choosing an interpretation. A county transfer can precede federal detention by months, and a BOP release can precede years of court supervision. The records may all be accurate while describing separate stages.

This evidence order also prevents a common error: treating a missing BOP result as proof that no federal custody occurred. USMS pretrial detention and older or exceptional records may require the court or an agency request.

Stephens Federal Release Destinations

No Bureau of Prisons institution was found in Stephens County. The facility-map entry is a nationwide destination system, not a local jail or building. A Stephens County resident may enter federal custody through a federal case, a warrant, a transfer, or designation after sentence. That path does not turn the Stephens County Detention Center into a federal prison.

If SCSO records show transfer to a federal authority, the local discharge entry proves only that county custody ended. Ask which agency received the person. BOP generally holds sentenced federal inmates in designated institutions. USMS handles many people before trial, during court proceedings, or while awaiting placement. ICE is a separate immigration system.

The next search must match that custody type. A county roster disappearance cannot prove federal release, and a BOP result cannot explain every USMS detention.

BOP Release Lookup Fields

The official BOP Inmate Locator is the main public historical tool for a sentenced federal inmate. It generally covers federal inmates from 1982 forward and updates daily. Search by a BOP, DCDC, FBI, or INS identifier when one is known. An exact name, middle initial, age, race, and sex help distinguish same-name results.

BOP fieldHow to read it
Register numberThe strongest public match for the federal record
NameMust be compared with identifiers and personal details
Age, race, and sexSupporting match fields, not enough alone
Release DatePast date may document release; future date is projected
LocationA facility, RELEASED, or other displayed status
UNKNOWNThe term or release date is not determined in the public result

Do not calculate a date when BOP says UNKNOWN. A future date must be labeled projected. The later result should be checked again for the actual status.

Confirm Federal BOP Release

Use a short, identity-first sequence. Record the search date because public information changes. Then pair the locator with the federal case.

  1. Collect the full legal name, middle initial, birth details, and any federal register number.
  2. Search the BOP locator by number first, or use the most exact name fields available.
  3. Compare the complete result, not just the displayed name.
  4. Read Release Date and Location together. Note whether the date is past, future, or UNKNOWN.
  5. Open the federal docket for the detention, judgment, release, and supervised-release orders.
  6. If BOP has no record and USMS custody is possible, use the federal case and a focused USMS records request.
Important: “RELEASED” means no longer in BOP custody. It does not rule out federal supervision or custody held by another jurisdiction.

The full Stephens County custody history may require the SCSO release record as well. A local transfer entry and a later BOP release describe two different points in time.

Reading a Past BOP Date

BOP explains that a past Release Date with no facility means the person was released on that date and is no longer in BOP custody. Location “RELEASED” carries the same core custody meaning. It is strong evidence for the end of BOP confinement, but it is not a complete account of all legal obligations.

The official BOP explanation of locator records is captured below.

The captured page documents BOP’s interpretation of past dates and released locations. It is not a live record for a particular Stephens County person.

After finding a past date, check the federal judgment for supervised release. Supervised release is a court-ordered period after imprisonment. It is distinct from BOP confinement, and a person can be released from prison while still bound by those terms.

BOP Search Screen and Scope

The locator is designed for federal prisoners, not county jail releases. The captured BOP search screen shows the official starting fields.

The interface supports number and name searches. It should not be used to infer that a missing person was never in USMS, state, county, or immigration custody.

BOP records generally reach back to 1982. Older federal records or special situations may require the National Archives or another records custodian. For a current result, save the exact wording and date checked instead of paraphrasing it into a broader claim.

USMS Is Not BOP Custody

A pretrial federal detainee can be held under USMS authority without becoming a sentenced BOP inmate. The person may be placed in a contract jail while the federal case proceeds. BOP’s locator is therefore not a complete historical search for every person held by the federal government.

Use the federal docket or PACER for detention orders, bond orders, release orders, judgment, and commitment. Those court records explain legal authority. They may not record the minute physical processing ended. For the custody record, use the USMS Freedom of Information Act process and identify the person, known number, date range, event, and desired format.

USMS ordinarily can address whether a person is presently in federal custody, subject to lawful disclosure limits. Its records path is not an instant historical locator. It also generally withholds prisoner photographs for privacy, so no federal mugshot should be promised.

Federal Court Release Records

The docket completes the BOP result. Look for an order of release or detention, bond conditions, judgment and commitment, sentence, later modification, and the term of supervised release. A BOP past date answers when prison custody ended. The judgment answers what court-imposed term followed.

A release order does not always prove the exact physical exit time. Paperwork, another warrant, or transfer can delay or redirect custody. In the same way, a sentence date is not a prison-release date. Keep the legal order and agency status in separate fields when recording the result.

BOP release
The end of confinement reported by the Bureau of Prisons.
Supervised release
A federal court term served in the community after imprisonment.
USMS detention
Federal custody commonly tied to pretrial proceedings and transport.
Projected date
A future estimate, not proof that release occurred.

Stephens to Federal Custody

When the Stephens County jail record says transfer, ask for the destination or receiving authority if maintained and public. The SCSO Transport Division documents transfers and retrievals, though its public description does not prove a particular federal handoff. The OSCN state docket may also show why county proceedings changed.

Search BOP only if sentenced federal custody is plausible. For USMS, use federal court records and FOIA. For ICE, move to the immigration locator and ERO path. A transfer entry is a trigger for the next system, never a synonym for community release.

Note: No BOP prison, USMS jail, or other federal correctional institution was identified within Stephens County.

Federal Release Records Contact

There is no local BOP facility desk to call in Stephens County. The public BOP locator is the first route for sentenced federal inmates. The federal docket and USMS FOIA cover different parts of the trail. If the chain started at the Stephens jail, SCSO maintains the local discharge record.
